The forest floor was a carpet, both soft and textured: absorbing sound and insulating the deep woods around it, and yet announcing every step with a defined crunch. Non-superwash bases (mohair, suri, NSW fingering and NSW worsted) will appear softer and with more color variation than superwash bases (fingering, sock, sport, tweed, DK, worsted and bulky).
