Purple-throated Carib Hummingbird
Description: The Purple-throated Carib, Eulampis jugularis, is a widespread species in the Caribbean, which I’ve been lucky to observe and sketch during a trip to Guadeloupe. This painting depicts the male, at top, with its shorter, straighter bill visiting one species of Heliconia flower and the female, at bottom, visiting a different species of Heliconia which is more suited to her longer, decurved bill. This painting was created as part of a coloring book I illustrated in collaboration with the conservation organization BirdsCaribbean.
