Pioneer LD-700 Pioneer released the LD-700 in 1984. It became the first LaserDisc player with a solid-state laser as well as the first LaserDisc player with a front-loading bay instead of a top loading one. After the release of this player, Pioneer became the leader in LaserDisc technology. Source: eBay Auction LaserDisc The first LaserDiscs were marketed as MCA DiscoVision discs and released in 1978. Pioneer later bought a majority of rights to MCA DiscoVision, and re-branded it at LaserVision and LaserDisc in 1980.
