Atari Lynx History Atari released the original Lynx in September 1989. It became the first handheld video game system to have a color screen. The system was developed by two former designers of the Commodore Amiga personal computer. The original Lynx was discontinued in 1991. Atari Lynx II Atari released a redesigned Lynx, the Lynx II, in 1991, replacing the original Lynx model. This model had better battery life, along with a redesigned case. It had a price of $99, which was cheaper than the $180 that the original Lynx went for. Atari sold 2 million units of all the Lynx models together, and discontinued support for the console in 1995, after the failure of the Atari Jaguar. Source: Retro Games Store
