What You’ll Need: TotalBoat Kintsugi Project Kit Several pairs of protective gloves Plastic sheeting to protect your work area Standard caulking gun Denatured alcohol Clean, lint-free cotton rag CATCH A BAD BREAK? KEEP CALM, AND PICK UP THE PIECES! STEP 1 – GET READY TO GLUE Protect your work surface with plastic sheeting. You have about 10 minutes to work with this epoxy before it kicks, so gather your materials and be ready to go. Lay out your broken pieces. STEP 2 – PUT YOUR GLOVES ON Be sure your work area is well ventilated. Wear gloves to keep epoxy off your skin. While working, change gloves often to avoid spreading epoxy onto your pieces. STEP 3 – CLEAN THE BROKEN EDGES Wipe the broken edges with a clean rag dampened with denatured alcohol. Be careful as you’re doing this – broken edges may be sharp. STEP 4 – SQUEEZE OUT A LITTLE EPOXY Dispense about 10-20ml of TotalBoat Thixo Fast Cure into a plastic beaker. The static mixing tip will dispense the exact 2:1 ratio of resin to hardener for you. Keep in mind that you have only about 10 minutes to use the epoxy before it starts to harden. STEP 5 – ADD A LITTLE PIGMENT Mix a small amount of gold pigment into the epoxy. Start with a little bit – you can always add more. STEP 6 – FILL THE SYRINGE Remove the plunger and fill the syringe. Put the plunger back in and push till the epoxy flows down into the tip. STEP 7 – GLUE THE LARGER PIECES Start by gluing the larger pieces together. Hold for 20-30 seconds, then move on to the smaller pieces. Change gloves often, to avoid spreading the epoxy beyond the cracks. STEP 8 – GLUE THE SMALLER PIECES To make handling smaller pieces easier, stick them to a piece of tape. Let the smaller pieces dry in place, before gluing them to the larger section. STEP 9 – GLUE THE SEPARATE SECTIONS Glue all your sections together. To help hold it all in place while it dries, you can use tape, or wrap a clean cotton rag loosely around the edges for gentle support. BACK TOGETHER – AND MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN EVER! Get Inspired!
