The Ellergrub is not only Weiser-Künstler's best vineyard, but easily the most dramatic and moving vineyard I've ever been in. Century-old ungrafted vines at dizzying heights. The wines always have a confident shrug of superiority, this wine especially. Heady aromas, a touch of creme brulee, Chanel No 5, canned peaches. The palate is complex and rich: pistachios and cream, silky with tangy fat, umami and steeped orange peel. Luxurious and profoundly satisfying. Decant to drink now or age for a few decades.
