Ungraded 1971 40% Silver Eisenhower Dollar minted in San Francisco. The Eisenhower Dollar, often referred to as the "Ike Dollar," is a United States coin series minted from 1971 to 1978. The obverse side of the Ike Dollar features a left-facing portrait of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who served as the 34th President of the United States. The portrait was designed by Frank Gasparro, the Chief Engraver of the United States Mint at the time. Eisenhower's name is inscribed at the top, and the motto "LIBERTY" is above his head. The reverse side of the coin features various designs depending on the year of minting. The most famous design depicts an American bald eagle landing on the moon, with Earth in the background. This design symbolizes the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969 and was used for most of the Ike Dollars. The lunar surface has the words "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and the denomination "$1" on it.
