~300 SEEDS. Brassica rapa. 70 days. Annual. Heirloom. Zones 3 - 9. Introduced in 1859, this heirloom variety produces perfectly round golden roots with sweet, mellow, fine-textured flesh that is never woody. Keeps well and is easy to grow! Direct sow seeds 1/4" deep, 1" apart, and in rows 12 - 18" apart in fertile, well-drained soil around 5 weeks before the last frost date in the Spring. Germinates in 5 - 17 days. Keep well-watered throughout the growing season so that root texture doesn't become woody. Thin seedlings to 2 - 4" apart. Full sun. Harvest leaves when young using the cut and come again method. Harvest roots when 3 - 4" in diameter. Can also be sown in Midsummer for a Fall crop.
