Mounting an axe or maul head onto a hickory handle is very easy: First, remove the tool head from the old handle (if necessary). Next place the head onto the new axe or maul handle and secure tightly in a bench vise. Place the wooden mounting wedge into the slot on the new handle and drive it down into place with a deadblow hammer or hard mallet. Cut off any excess that can't be driven down using a hand saw or sawzall. Lastly, drive one or two metal wedges into the wood wedge/handle area to take up any remaining looseness. Choose from the following: --Mounting kit (one 3 inch wood wedge + three round wedges) --10 round wedges (all large) --15 round wedges (5 small, 5 medium, 5 large) --36 flat wedges (large)
