The Plot Thickens: From Character to Conflict

(Class for Novice writers. 60 minutes) Participants will work from obituaries to construct a character and a conflict that would motivate a mystery short story or novel. Specific Details: Developing a character and moving to the construction of a conflict involving this character. Brainstorming and discussion. Specific Benefits: New techniques, material and ideas for further development. Prof. Swanson has worked with writers of all levels; she has a background in presenting papers on women writers of detective fiction and in teaching honors courses on female sleuths.
