Wild Bergamot (Bee Balm)

Wild Bergamot, also known as Bee Balm, is an easy-to-grow native wildflower that produces stunning lavender-colored flowers which beloved by hummingbirds, butterflies and bees.  Historically used to treat indigestion, colds, and flus, Monarda fistulosa contains high concentrations of the compounds carvacrol and thymoquinone, which today are being investigated for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and potentially even anti-cancer properties.  Bee Balm makes a beautiful landscaping flower and is an essential plant for wildflower meadows.  Its profuse, light purple blooms form an elegant display in late summer and provide entertainment for patio guests, who can enjoy watching bumblebees buzz dutifully from flower to flower, collecting their sweet nectar.
