With a house full of children, grandmother would make Dumb Bread, a breakfast staple deeply rooted in Virgin Islands Culinary Art. The bread is a non-rising, very dense bread, traditionally baked in a brick oven or also steam baked over a covered coal pot, utilizing the “dum” technique of cooking, brought to the Caribbean from East India.
