Artemis, the Huntress and Sacred Virgin, goddess of the wilds and nymphs, had a strong connection to deer and the art of the hunt, one of the most important sports of ancient Greece. She is a goddess of free nature and independence, guiding the way with her torches and accompanied by her hounds. We currently have two pieces honoring Artemis, both depicting her sacred deer in hand-painted ceramic: A candle alcove and decorative dish.  Candle Alcove: This candle alcove depicts a wild nature scene with flying birds and a deer running, calling in the aspect of Artemis Elaphia, the goddess of hunting deer, where she was celebrated with an ancient Greek festival with honeyed cakes in the shape of stags. The candle calls in the aspect of Artemis Phosphorus, who guides the way through the wilderness with her torches. It is made of ceramic and hand-painted in Spain, originally for the Ethan Allen furniture company. It includes a candle holder in the center that illuminates the nature scene pain
