Each altar is emblazoned with an image of Anubis in gold, jackal-headed and holding an ankh in one hand. Inside are handmade items to bring you closer to Anubis, including: Sarcophagus Tile - Represents Anubis’ role in bandaging mummies and also in the ceremony in the Opening of the Mouth Ritual in which he gives the undead its five senses back. The empty relief represents the ka, the essence of the soul, leaving the body of the mummy to rebirth in the afterlife.  Sphinx Tile - Anubis is the protector of the tombs and is in charge of punishing those who may violate the final resting places.
