Adonis Prayer Card

Our Adonis prayer card honors Adonis, Aphrodite's bigender consort who dies and is reborn once a year. While in the prime of his life, Adonis is gored by a boar while hunting: his second love after Aphrodite. When in the Underworld, Persephone falls in love with Adonis as well and endeavors to keep him there with her while Aphrodite fights for his apotheosis and return to the living. Eventually, he's allowed to spend one third of the year among the living with Aphrodite, one third with the dead alongside Persephone, and one third to spend how he will. Adonis chooses to spend this time with Aphrodite, who grieves his yearly loss in the Adonia festival.  This prayer card features vintage art of a Greco-Roman individual, assigned male at birth but feminine in presentation, leaning against a column.
