About: Founded in 1781, Vidal-Fleury is the Rhône Valley’s oldest continuing grower/négociant firm. Thomas Jefferson’s visit in 1787 was its first contact with the United States; he called the wines “justly celebrated”. Varietals: 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, 5% Carignan. Farming: Sustainable Tasting Notes: This wine is dark red with purple reflections. Its nose is characterized by intense aromas of candied red fruits, black pepper, and thyme. The palate is round with a present and balanced tannic structure. The finish is long with cherry notes. Pairing: Complements meat-based dishes such as duck shepherd’s pie, lamb navarin, or beef grills. It also pairs well with cheeses.
