Salina, Sicily. One of the few winemakers on this remote volcanic island, Nino Caravaglio is best known for his capers and his stunning expressions of Malvasia di Lipari—both sweet and dry. Occhio di Terra is his skin-contact take, made from organically farmed old vines on ungrafted rootstock. Grown in the Malfa commune on mineral-rich soils, the grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts. A 10-day maceration on the skins gives the wine its golden hue and savory depth. Aged on fine lees until bottling, with only a light filtration. Expect bright golden tones, Mediterranean florals, ripe yellow fruit, and a fresh lift of acidity. A pure island expression that channels both sun and sea.
