Manford Susunkewa is one of the carvers credited with what is called the revivalist style of Kachina dolls.  He felt that the old way of carving was being lost and wanted to show the tradition of that style.   He was October 10, 1940, at the Second Mesa village of Shungopavi located on the Hopi reservation. He is a member of the Bear Strap Clan, has been carving since the 1960s and has taken numerous awards for his work.  This is a Badger Kachina, which is considered a healing kachina who knows the prayers for the growth of healing herbs.
