
Seagram's - When In Doubt Lights Out
"When in Doubt - Light's Out!" is one of the many public service announcements commissioned by the House of Seagram's as part of their National Victory Effort campaign. These posters were produced throughout the Second World War. The message in this poster is to heighten awareness of German U- Boats and their surveillance along the coasts of America. Seagram's was a distillery and beverage maker founded in Ontario, Canada by Joseph Seagram. The company existed from 1857-2000, before selling in part to the Coca-Cola Company, which still produces their Ginger Ale and Tonic Water varieties. Seymour Goff (1904-1992) was the director of Seagram's art department beginning in the 1930s. Many of his works are signed "es-ar-gee", a humble play on his initials, S.R.G. (Seymour Rinaldo Goff), but this poster has his full name written out in the wake of the German U-Boat. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction.
