BLAVATSKY (1831-1891) was the principal founder of the Theosophical Society in 1875, and the major inspiration of the resulting Theosophical Movement. Her best known works are Isis Unveiled (1877) and The Secret Doctrine (1888). Of almost equal importance were her voluminous periodical writings which she contributed to the Theosophist, Lucifer, The Path and other Theosophical journals and nineteenth-century periodicals. The articles of Madame Blavatsky are an invaluable source of Theosophical teaching and explanation, so in 1963 The Theosophy Company of Los Angeles gathered them into a series of 37 pamphlets – usefully grouped into related themes to make them more easily accessible to students and researchers – and later into the three volume hard back edition pictured.
