It is arguably the birthplace of grape-growing alongside other ancient cultures, but it is also one of the least known here in the United States. The Teliani Valley winery was one of the first to begin exporting to the States back in 2000 and has brought with it a deep history as well as an approachable introduction to what makes Georgian wine so unique. This Saperavi is different, yet familiar. It has a vibrant blue and red fruit character similar to Gamay from Beaujolais or Mencia from Spain, but it carries a mineral structure all its own.
