Stating Our Faith in Urgent Times

Testifying to Our Living Faith In the United Church of Christ, we do not prescribe to creeds or confessions as required tests of faith. Our shared beliefs are identified through our sharing of testimonies, and one of our common testimonies is the UCC Statement of Faith: We believe in you, O God, Eternal Spirit,God of our Savior Jesus Christ and our God... But, as Roger Shinn once stated, "The Statement of Faith was never meant to be everlasting." When, in 1983, General Synod affirmed the 1959 Statement of Faith along with the 1981 Statement of Faith, it did so "until such time as a new statement of faith is received." But a new statement was never developed.
