
Philip Melanchthon - On the Woes of Teachers (Intermediate-Advanced Latin Conversation)
Thurs., 1pm (U.S. Eastern Time) Course Description: This will be a Latin immersion course, and as such it will be held entirely in Latin, though allowing for occasional explanations or questions in English, if necessary. The students are encouraged, however, to speak as much Latin in class as they are able. We will be reading a short satyrical lamentation written by the German theologian and writer Philip Melanchthon, titled De miseriis paedagogorum. We will be using the Latin text as basis for further discussion in the original language; we will be commenting and discussing our readings in Latin, explaining and rephrasing the original text, thereby solidifying our active knowledge of Latin, as well as acquiring new vocabulary and idiom. The course will require home preparation. DETAILS: Level: Intermediate to Advanced.
