Bon Tool Mason's line twigs/trigs

Some mason's call these trigs. Other's call them twigs. Why the confusion? They get called trigs From the Scandinavian word tryggr meaning true. Some mason's think it makes them sound smart, others just don't know why they're called this. They are other times called twigs because they look like small, little sticks. While there is a debate amongst some mason's on what to call it, It's the same thing, does the same job? My thoughts?
