3 Gallon Light: Full SunSoil: Medium - WetMature Height: 7 feetMature Width: 5 feet Description: Interesting member of the birch family in Illinois being a shrub rather than a tree. Like other birch it loves wet areas but seems to be perfectly happy in urban yards that stay a bit wet. Used singularly or as a hedge, the glossy foliage is clear and turns a golden yellow in the fall. It does not have the exfoliating bark of the others in its family, rather it is coppery in color and nearly glows in the fall and winter months. Male and female flowers born separately but on the same plant, the male in drooping clusters, the female in erect clusters up to 1 inch long.
