A Large Naga Tribe Food Tray

The Naga people live in the extreme northeastern part of India along the Burmese border. Their homeland is mountainous and heavily forested. Because wood was -and is- abundant, most household furnishings and implements were made from solid pieces of wood, without any joinery. Since there was little trade or specialization in Naga society, each family made everything they needed and the shapes and forms had to be very simple. Naga designs are often quite beautiful, combining organic materials with maximum economy and aesthetic taste.
