This bronze fangding vessel is a modern copy of an ancient Shang Dynasty design. During the Shang Dynasty (1600-1046 B.C.) artistic expression exploded and much of it was in the form of bronzes and jades. Authentic Shang pieces are meticulously made and often of very large size and weight. This modern copy is in the "archaistic" style, dating to the earliest part of Chinese recorded history. The verdigris patina that has been created on its surface is quite convincing.
