EDWARD HOPPER: PAINTINGS OF URBAN ISOLATION

While many of his contemporaries had fallen under the sway of Cubism and Surrealism, Hopper pursued a realistic style that had more in common with earlier generations of European art than with the avante garde movements of his time. In this extensively illustrated lecture, Edward Hopper's iconic work will be examined in the context of Modernism and American art history, while his lasting influence on painters, photographers, and filmmakers will be discussed as well.
