He is also known as Inpu, Inpw, and Anpu. Anubis is often depicted as a jackal-headed man, but can also be shown as a black canine or a muscular man. The color black represents the decay of the body, while the Nile River Valley's fertile soil represents regeneration and life. On one chained scale is the "weighing of the heart", and on the other is the "Feather of Ma'at".
