These socks, sized to fit most adults, are worked from the toe up. The pattern features a geometric, two color, stair-step design created with a technique known as mosaic, or slip stitch, colorwork. The socks have a star toe and shadow wrapped short row heel shaping. Mosaic knitting is likely the easiest type of colorwork because, unlike fair isle, only one color of yarn is worked at a time. The complicated looking design is basically made by knitting in alternating color stripes and slipping slipping certain stitches without working them. The mosaic motif in this pattern is charted two ways so either a light or dark color can be the main color. This pattern is written in needle neutral terms and can be worked on dpns or on long circular needles.
