ETHIOPIA YIRGACHEFFE, LIMITED RESERVE Region: Yirgacheffe Elevation: 1800 masl Varietal: Kurume, Dega, Wolisho Process: Honey Tasting notes: Orange zest, Dark cocoa, Nectarine Coffee from the Gedeo Zone in Ethiopia, thrives in red-brown fertile soil under the shade of various tree species. Farmers selectively hand-pick ripe coffee cherries every eight to ten days, averaging 100 to 200 pounds of cherries per day per picker, which yields about 20 to 40 pounds of beans. To meet the high demand for the Koke Honey coffee profile, a new washing station, Birbes Kela, was established in 2022 alongside the existing Koke station. Both are situated in the Yirgacheffe district and source cherries from approximately 1,200 smallholder farmers. The Koke washing station has been in operation since 2011 and has significantly improved coffee quality through producer guidance.
