Ethereal Zephyr Wings
I wanted to convey the silent story of liberation and the pure, unspoken bond between sky and this beautiful winged creature. In my mind there's a narrative of Pidgeot (a creature that knows few vertical limits) taking to the skies in a display of bold strength and grace. When I set out to bring this vision to life, I chose a spectrum of blues and teals to represent the sky—a vast, ever-stretching home to all the Pokémon. The choice of colors was deliberate; they are the shades of the sky at a moment when light begins to wane but they hold a promise of the infinite horizon. The strokes that run across the backdrop are intentional, giving a sense of speed and movement, a feeling of the wind that's always present in the upper atmosphere. I spent considerable time on the details of Pidgeot's feathers. Each stroke was a careful decision, aiming to give a sense of individuality to every plume. The light that I chose to bathe Pidgeot in is meant to elevate their form. In composing this piece, I placed Pidgeot just slightly off-center, allowing for a natural flow within the space of the canvas. It was important to me that your eyes could wander and explore, yet always returning to Pidgeot, the heart of the story. The use of light and shadow, the precise rendering of the creature against the more fluid background—it's all crafted to draw a moment of flight. In creating this work, I felt a deep connection to the sky and the creatures that inhabit it, and I hope that sense of awe and serenity carries through in the final result. It is a piece that holds a special place in my heart, representing a physical journey across the sky in the limitless skyline of my mind.
