Genji Sawai - Sowaka LP (Glossy Mistakes, 2023 reissue) AMAZING mushroom electro/avant-phonk for fans of Herbie Hancock, James Blood Ulmer... Magic Band-plays-new-jack-swing-beats? Faust-scores-1980s-Japanese-murder-mystery-for-live-theater? I don't even know... It's simultaneously familiar and borderline "normal" sounding while being completely wrong and confusing. I'm not the world's biggest Bill Laswell fan, but this feels uniquely fried and ahead of its time. Spanish import (expensive, I know, sorry). Already sold out from the label...
