Once you insert a song into the music box, holes punched into the paper activate gears within the music box mechanism that play the notes. About the Box: All our boxes are made in Vermont. We make the music boxes out of walnut, with a natural satin beeswax finish. Other species of wood (like Cherry, and Oak) are also available. :) The dimensions of the music box are about 5"x3"x2", and has a weight of 3 lbs.
