Arrival is named after the dove descending into view. Behind the dove is a painted mosaic tile background, interspersed with gold leaf accents to lead the eye to and away from the main focal point, the dove.The background mosaic is painted to create an optical illusion. When looking at the dove, it appears to be above you like looking upward, toward a domed ceiling. But as your eye moves downward on the composition, the tile mosaic appears to shift in perspective until when you look at the plants at the bottom, it is as if you're lying on your stomach looking straight ahead.The top half of the composition, including the dove and palm branches, is symbolic in nature with inspiration coming from Byzantine art. While the lower half of the composition is more grounded in plants from my own property and garden, including Hosta, Ferns, and Snake Plants.My hope is that this painting will enrich the space where it hangs and add a bright, bold colorful impact, while also inspiring the viewer to
