Beautiful deep purple amethyst cluster on a metal stand. The included stand makes for a very aesthetic display. Super extra quality specimen due to the deep purple color saturation. Amethyst geodes are born out of lava. During volcanic eruptions, several gas bubbles form deep within the liquid lava and slowly rise to the surface as the temperature changes. These gas bubbles get locked in place when the lava cools down and creates vesicles or cavities within the rock. Some scientists theorize that the cavities can also be formed when cooling lava flows near tree roots or other things sticking out of the ground. The cooling lava hardens completely before filling in around the outcrop, creating a cavity. Over time, these cavities get filled with silica-rich liquid containing traces of iron and aluminum, which eventually crystallize and give birth to the amethyst. Amethyst is a gem whose beauty transcends its commonality. It is a variety of Quartz found in many locations around the world. It forms as transparent, terminated crystals of all sizes in geodes, clusters and as long single terminations. It is also found in vitreous masses and polished into wonderful specimens and personal talismans. Amethyst ranges in hue from pale red-violet to deep violet and may be transparent or opaque.
