1843 THOMAS ADAM. Robert Murray M'Cheyne Recommended "Private Thoughts on Religion."
Rather scarce early imprint of one of the most searching little volumes we have ever read. I recall reading of it first in M'Cheyne's memoir where he prayed for just a drop of the oceans of humility he found in the writings of Adam. I begna looking for the volume at that time [now nearly 30 years ago] and it took me several years to locate my own copy. The work is, in large part, private reflections from the notes and diary of Rev. Thomas Adam (1701-1784), the deeply evangelical rector of Wintringham divided by subject. Adam, Thomas. Private Thoughts on Religion and Other Subjects Connected with It. With a Sketch of His Life and Character. Philadelphia. Presbyterian Board of Publication. 1843. 288pp. Good copy, very solid, quarter leather freshly consolidated. Some faint dissipated foxing as shown.
