A very scarce six-month run of Henry Ward Beecher's paper, The Christian Union. Similarly to Talmage's paper, Beecher's addressed a broad spectrum of issues and counseled Christians [and Americans more broadly] regarding the ethical and practical responses requisite. It included fiction [one regarding a freed slave's Christmas], the epidemic of opium addiction, social equity and wealth, Native American rights, women's suffrage, etc.,  Contents include: Mr. Parnell on the Irish Land Agitation; The Hidden Life - Sermon by Henry Ward Beecher; serialized printing of Zouri's Christmas [a book affirming black self-assertion, where the ignorant describe Zouri as an impudent "n****r gal"]; Our Magic Lantern; Illustrated Smith & Wesson Advertisements throughout; Working with Christ by Henry Ward Beecher; The Temptation of Jesus by Lyman Abbott; The Art of Making Bread by Mrs. Henry Ward Beecher; Attractive Illustrated Advert for The Inebriates' Home in Fort Hamilton - Specializing in Opium
