Scarce departure sermon by one of the very first missionaries of the ABCFM to serve in the Syria, Turkey, and Palestine regions, designated as "Western Asia." No other copies on the market at the time of cataloguing. Additionally, it includes a lengthy [14pp.] charge from Jeremiah Evarts of the ABCFM, and the original Constitution of the Palestine Missionary Society [2pp].  Daniel Temple [1789-1851] was a shoemaker [apparently the surest way to know you're called to be a missionary] in Dartmouth before entering Andover Seminary where he encountered the missionary culture still red-hot from the Haystack Prayer revival. He was ordained as an evangelist in 1821, and went to Malta as a missionary in 1822. He served, with Pliny Fisk, etc., for 23 years at Malta, Smyrna, and the surrounding regions.
