The endless knot (or eternity knot) appears on engravings from the Indus Valley Civilization dating back to 2500 BCE. It's a 7(4) knot configuration, meaning there are 7 crossings and a braid width of 4. The knot (or other configurations of equivalent knots) appears in symbolism of Buddhist sects from India to China to Japan, as well as in Celtic imagery and Jainist symbolism. This pattern does also have one unusual conceit, which is that once it's completed, it is displayed in the hoop or frame with the fabric rotated 45 degrees off of the vertical. That's what gives the piece its striking diagonal lines without being broken up into little diamond or x-shaped stitches. Details: Size: 55x55 stitches (see images for sizes on various fabric
