Starting in 1935, DuPont chemical corp was using the slogan "Better Things for Better Living  ...Through Chemistry" To try to put the public at ease about how big of a company DuPont was. Turns out our fears were justified but that's a tale for another time. Somehow, they thought this ad was a good idea.  (Note the slogan down there in the bottom right corner, too) In the 1960's and 70's, psychonauts and other various wags started co-opting the slogan as a euphemism for recreational psychedelic use  Eventually DuPont dropped the "...through Chemistry" part when they realized how their slogan had been corrupted. It's still used today in this way, but also frequently in reference to mental health prescriptions like antidepressants and ADHD treatments, etc.  But DuPont's blatant evilness and disregard for public welfare made me think that a mad scientist probably also thinks they're working to improve people's quality of life.
