Ka Puīa ʻAla Uluau Dress- Bordeaux

This Uluau dress features our Ka Puīa ʻAla print on Bordeaux material with Primrose ink.  Ka Puīa ʻala Trekking through the uplands, once in a while we might stumble upon beds of fragrant, dark green lauaʻe.  The sighting is not common as before but still exciting.  The fern makes a long lasting lei and its scent remains long after dried.  Lei of lauaʻe are placed on the kuahu for hula deity Laka.  The greenery is hoʻokupu, an offering to reaffirm the connection to the dance, but also to awaken the relationship with the forest, the greater ritualistic altar. Ka-Puīa-ʻAla translates as The-Fragrant-Perfume.  Figuratively I would like to offer The-Manifested-Fragrance.  In the long practice of ritual lei making, the scent of lauaʻe becomes very familiar to when chanting about the fern, the fragrance comes to mind, elevating both practice and experience.
