This Button Up Aloha Shirt features our Hōʻā Ka Mauli Ola print on Ocean material with Blueprint ink.  Hōʻā Ka Mauli Ola  Hōʻā means to ignite.  The name of this print suggests:  “Illuminate your spirit!” Kūpe'e is the term for anklet or bracelet.  Making them out of laua'e, kukui, ti, or any of the various kinolau, the kūpe'e are the adornments for the traditional dancer of hula kahiko.  Boar's tusks and shells are also crafted into kūpe'e. We seek and gather kūpe'e shells to make our anklets and bracelets.  During the lowest tides and the darkest moon, the shell emerges out of the sand  feeding on the exposed rocks.  The kūpe'e shells add to the percussion of the dance.  This fabric layout plays on the positive and the negative parts of the art, pushing the scale to focus on the tiny lines that make each kūpe'e distinct and unique.
