Fountain-Source of Occultism by G. de Purucker
Just as the existence of the counterfeit assures the certainty of gold, however hidden, so the prevalence of the spurious confirms the actuality of the genuine. Yet many sincere seekers are bewildered, so great is the proliferation of metaphysical occult practices. How can they know what is spiritually sound, occultly authentic, in the profusion of half and a quarter-truths so widespread today?Fountain-Source of Occultism, we believe, offers that guidance. Not only does G. de Purucker restore occultism to its original purity, but in his presentation of the archaic truths once universally revered, he recreates the atmosphere of the discipline and instruction of the Mystery-centers which formed the spiritual core of the great civilizations of the past. Here, then, is an illuminated interpretation of the ancient wisdom on which the Secret Doctrine of the ages- and of H.P. Blavatsky's masterpiece of that name- is founded. The range of subject matter is vast: galaxies and solar systems; invisible worlds and their inhabitants; the sacred planets; who are the Gods?; occult physiology; chelaship, meditation, yoga, psychic powers; Christs; Buddhas, Bodhisattvas; the processes of sleep and death; ethics, karma, heredity, procreation; Space and Time. But much more than a presentation of a doctrine, the book "addresses itself to all who recognize the inter-relatedness of human destiny to the cosmic design; who intuitively sense that the pilgrimage of man spans a multiplicity of lives on earth so that the soul in the course of the ages can bring forth the latent godhood."Derived from twelve booklets of instruction circulated privately among students, the scope of teaching is vast: I - The Primeval Wisdom-TeachingII - Discipline Precedes the MysteriesIII - Space and the Doctrine of MayaIV - Galaxies and Solar Systems: their Genesis, Structure, and DestinyV - Hierarchies and the Doctrine of EmanationsVI - Invisible Worlds and their InhabitantsVII - The Doctrine of the SpheresVIII - Gods - Monads - Life-AtomsIX - Correlations of Cosmic and Human ConstitutionsX - The Hierarchy of CompassionXI - Death and the Circulations of the Cosmos — IXII - Death and the Circulations of the Cosmos — II More than an exposition of teachings from The Secret Doctrine by H. P. Blavatsky, Fountain-Source addresses itself to all who sense the inter-relatedness of human destiny with the cosmic design, who feel the call of the inward way, and take the ancient vow of service to humanity. Gottfried de Purucker (1874-1942), was born in Suffern, New York, son of a prominent Anglican minister who for some years served as a chaplain of the American Church in Geneva, Switzerland. Educated there in the College de Geneve as well as by private tutors, Dr. De Purucker specialized in Hebrew and Greek in preparation for ministry. Later, he gained proficiency in other languages as well, including Sanskrit. When exposure to the writings of the early Church Fathers left him unsatisfied, he turned to theosophy with its broad interpretation of all religious and philosophic streams. His greatest contribution to Western though has been his clarification of the basic philosophic principles enunciated by H.P. Blavatsky. From 1929 until his death in 1942 Dr. De Purucker was international head of the Theosophical Society.
