Antique hand carved container, rustic "make-do" (c early 1900s)
One of a kind "make-do" piece that should come with a story. No telling what this was made to be....a vase, a purse, who knows? What I do know is that it was hand carved from a single block of wood, possibly oak or mahogany, hollowed out and decorated with a chiseled design on the front and back. Newer leather strap indicates a prior owner may have thought it was designed to carry something. Measures: 9" tall x 14" wide x 5" wide at the base. Good vintage condition. Not knowing what the original artist had in mind is what makes one-of-a-kind items like this such interesting conversation pieces.
