Sojong The Ritual of Restoration and Purification As the novice and fully ordained monks and nuns restore their threefold training and purify their impediments through this ritual, it is called the ritual of restoration and purification. It has three benefits or purposes: It purifies the morality and dharma, and negates the faults of not performing the restoration and purification ritual. First: In order to purify the morality, the restoration and purification was taught. Engaging in the restoration and purification ritual, monks and nuns confess and refrain from downfalls and bless the downfalls, and purify their vows or morality. Second: The purification of dharma refers to the purification of afflictions. Since the monks and nuns perform restoration and purification ritual with the cultivation of virtuous thoughts and remembering impermanence by recalling the past and future downfalls, the afflictions of attachment and anger do not arise. The third is easy to understand. In short, T
