SEIKO DX Automatic Day/Date Indicator DX - an acronym for the word Deluxe. From the branding dictionary: "DX (Sub-Brand) - A line of inexpensive Seiko Automatics consisting predominantly (but not exclusively) of caliber 6106 (a, b & c) & 70xx caliber powered automatics, produced during the 1960's, 70's & early 80's." Basically, Seiko produced Deluxe watches to experiment with sophisticated and wild designs to offer watches with luxury character and at the same time, watches generally affordable with exclusive designs. Some Seiko collector say that DX is always meant as an extension to Seiko 5, plus the hacking mechanism (center second hand that could be stopped "or hacked" by pulling out the crown). The Seiko 5 is also steeped in horological history. When it stepped onto the scene in 1963, it was revolutionary.
