California mugwort (Artemisia douglasiana) is a perennial herb whose leaves and flowers are highly aromatic when bruised or crushed. Although is is related to the sagebrush, mugwort has large broad leaves with sharp lobes which are green on top and whitish below. This herb has been used by the Chumash, Luiseño, and Kumeyaay people for a variety of uses ranging from dream stimulants, decongestant, and weapons.
