
Aluminum Armature Wire
Most of my sculptures have armatures. The armatures give them flexibility, an accurate skeleton, the ease of being able to wrap wool quickly to begin building shape, and a stable "bone" to keep limbs skinny. The key is finding the right wire for the job...We currently offer 2 gauges: 12 and 1412 gauge wire is a nice weight for sculptures over 10". I use it for reindeer, camels, and any other larger pieces. You will get a 20ft coil.14 gauge wire is perfect for animals in the 6-10" long range. 14 is my most used wire; ponies, donkeys, goats, sheep, etc. This 30ft coil of wire will make approximately 10-12 animals.I like to wrap aluminum wire armatures with pipe cleaners to give the wool something to grab.You can learn how to build a solid, efficient, well performing armature by watching any number of the Sarafina Video Tutorials found here:
