carved from steatite and glazed, the traditional scaraboid back is replaced by a finely modeled representation of a baboon in the right profile, intricately carved in high relief. The baboon rests on a round base that is beautifully incised with text, which likely served as a seal. The inscription reads: “The image of Amun,” with a basket adorning each rounded end. This scaraboid has a longitudinal piercing for suspension. Medium: Glazed Steatite Dimensions: Length: 1.2 cm (0.47 inches) Condition:  Intact and in excellent condition overall.Provenance: Private Maryland collection of a diplomat, acquired while serving in Egypt between 1949 and 1956, and then by descent.
